Effective February 1st, 2016 Berkeley Vital Records will only issue Certificates for the first 5 years after the Birth or Death. After 5 years of birth or death, the certificate can be obtained by contacting the Alameda County Recorder's Office, (510) 272-6362. The City of Berkeley Vital Records maintains documentation of births and deaths that occurred within Berkeley City limits and for the last 5 years of the event only. After 5 years of birth or death, the certificate can be obtained by contacting the Alameda County Recorders Office. If a birth or death occurred outside Berkeley, contact the county, state, or country in which the event occurred to request the record. City of Berkeley does not issue marriage certificates. Contact the Alameda County Recorder at (510) 272-6363 for marriages in Berkeley.
