Welcome to the Toxics Management Division at the City of Berkeley, CA. We are part of the Department of Planning & Development.
Toxics Management Division is responsible for ensuring the safe management of hazardous materials within the City of Berkeley. TMD oversees environmental programs for businesses and residents including the Used Oil Recycling and Universal Waste Recycling programs in Berkeley. TMD is the City’s Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) under State law, charged with enforcing various state regulations related to the management of hazardous materials including hazardous waste generation, Underground Storage Tanks, and the Hazardous Materials Business Plan Programs. TMD is staff to the City’s Community Environmental Advisory Commission which advises the Council on environmental concerns.
