Echo Lake Camp is located fifteen minutes from South Lake Tahoe atop a 7,400 foot ridge overlooking the Tahoe Basin. Camp programs include Family Camp, Youth Resident Camp, Counselors-In-Training (CIT), 50+ Camp, Pre-K Family Weekend, Teen Retreat, and private group rentals.
Echo Lake Camp Summer 2015 Openings
Season: June 12 – Aug. 29, 2015
Pay Rate: $41.92 - $62.88 / Day
Benefits: Room and Board Provided.
Echo Lake Camp Staff Members (CSM's) fulfill a variety of roles depending on their department and which program is in session. During our Family Camp program, you will work directly with individuals and groups of campers of all ages, serve as a role model, assist with camp operations, and participate in camp special events. During Youth Camp, Camp Staff Members focus on providing a valuable and enriching experience Youth Campers ages 7-14, whether as a Cabin Counselor or as a support staff member. Camp Staff Members will work in one of three main departments:

- Recreation / Counselors
Season: June 12 – Aug. 29, 2015
Pay Rate: $41.92 - $62.88 / Day + 5% on lifeguarding days
Benefits: Room and Board Provided.
Lifeguards are responsible for providing a safe and fun aquatic experience for our campers. Trained lifeguards are responsible for providing surveillance and injury prevention strategies, maintaining and securing aquatic facilities and equipment, and when necessary, appropriately responding in emergency situations, providing standard lifeguard care until additional responders arrive. Lifeguard duties include swim tests for youth campers, canoe trips on Echo Lake, swimming pool guarding, lake guarding at Echo Lake, supervision of aquatic based games and activities, injury reporting, basic pool maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
Camp Staff Leader
Season: June 12 – August 29, 2015
Pay Rate: $62.88 - $94.32 / Day

Echo Lake Camp Staff Leaders (CSL's) are key decision makers both during Echo Lake Camp programs and pre-season. Camp Staff Leaders interact with all campers, serve as a role model for campers and staff, assist in the coordination of camp activities, events, and staff, and are directly responsible for ensuring camp programs and services are provided on a day-to-day basis. Camp Staff Supervisors typically work six (6) days a week during our primary season.
CSL Administration / Maintenance
Provide front-line customer support to campers as they arrive and depart from camp. Process camper satisfaction surveys, assist with the cabin selection process, and help coordinate luggage transportation and general camp cleanliness by working directly with our camp maintenance team. This role will operate a cash register, balance receipts, maintain camp and office cleanliness, and may assist in merchandise display and inventory management. This role will work closely with the Administrative Camp Staff Supervisor in the general oversight of camp operations, and is a critical operations role.
CSL Food Service
The Kitchen Camp Staff Leader serves as the chief cook and assists with the training and supervision of all food service staff working in the kitchen, while the Dining Hall Camp Staff Leader is primarily responsible for front-of-house food service, including serving, dining hall preparation and seating, and camper customer service. Both of these positions will work closely with the Food Service Camp Staff Supervisor to complete their duties. The Echo Lake Food Service Team produces more than 400 wholesome, well-balanced meals daily, and these roles will ensure camper satisfaction. Both roles are critical to our food service operation, and will lead the food service department in inventory tracking and reporting, safe food handling techniques, food preparation, cooking in a commercial kitchen, serving, and kitchen and dining hall set up, cleaning, and sanitation. These positions require detail oriented leaders who have a knack for working with a wide variety of people in a fast-paced environment.
Interact with and serve as a role model for campers and participate in camp events; Lead the development and implementation of camp recreational programs for all ages; Supervise recreation activities. Including recreation activity areas and equipment maintenance, supply and inventory control and ordering, establishing and maintaining day and evening programs for campers; and staff supervision. During our three-week Youth Camp season, the Recreation Camp Staff Supervisor is responsible for all youth camp day-to-day program operations.

City of Berkeley Camp Staff Supervisors facilitate daily operations of camp departments by providing training, mentorship, supervision, program development, and operations management within their department and as part of a leadership team. These positions are directly accountable for management of camp departments, as well as successful implementation of their department’s work. Camp Staff Supervisors may assist with the general oversight and supervision of camp in the absence of the Camp Manager.
The Administrative Camp Staff Supervisor is responsible for supervising and managing our office and administrative functions, including supervising a team of office assistants and general maintenance staff. Attention to detail is essential. This position will require you to oversee multiple aspects of camp programming, such as coordinating our volunteer Artist in Residence program, working closely with the Counselor-in-Training Coordinator, and assisting in the orientation and scheduling of our rotating Camp Medical Staff. Aside from oversight, the Administrative Camp Staff Supervisor will have the responsibility of processing invoices, completing daily deposits, and regularly communicating with the City of Berkeley camps office to ensure smooth operations. This role must have an excellent understanding of camp operations, recreation programming, and customer service. Additional background check information may be required, as this individual is in a cash handling position.
CSS Food Service
The Food Service Camp Staff Supervisor is responsible for providing well-balanced, appetizing, and meal options for our campers and staff. This person will be both a front-line customer service leader, handling frequent interactions with campers and staff on a daily basis to ensure camper satisfaction, as well as an operations manager, with an understanding of mass-production commercial kitchen operations. In Summer 2014, Echo Lake Camp produced an average of more than 400 meals daily during our season. This person should have a strong sense of leadership, as well as an understanding of recreation programming, inventory ordering and reporting, safe food handling techniques, food preparation, and customer service skills. This person will supervise a kitchen staff leader (chief cook), Dining Hall host, and team of around six (6) line cooks.
City of Berkeley Camps, steeped in traditions and customs, offer daily activity schedules and special events for all ages. The Recreation Camp Staff Supervisor is directly responsible for the creation and implementation of our summer programs and activities for all of our programs, including Family Camp, Youth Residential Camp, adult, teen, and pre-k programs, as well as private group rentals. This position will lead two camp stall leaders and an eight member recreation team, and have a strong understanding of camp recreation programming, scheduling, staff training, and program supervision for both youth residential programs as well as family centered activities.

The Echo Lake Camp Medical Staff position is a unique opportunity for qualified medical professionals to join the Echo Lake Camp Staff team for one week or more in beautiful Echo Lake CA, overlooking South Lake Tahoe, CA. Echo Lake Camp is situated along the Pacific Crest Trail just minutes away from Desolation Wilderness, and offers a variety of summer residential camp programs including Family Camp (all ages), Private Group Rentals, Youth Residential Camp (Age 7-14), City of Berkeley Weekend programs, and Adult Camps (50+).
Due to State of CA minimum standards, the Camp Medical Staff role is typically filled by a Medical Doctor, Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Medical Technician, or similarly qualified medical professional. Camp Medical Staff attend to the day-to-day health and safety needs of Echo Lake Camp guests and staff. This position will work out of our ‘Health Hut’, a small facility equipped with basic medical supplies and equipment located in the center of camp.
Daily tasks will vary based on the program taking place at Echo Lake Camp. During our Family Camp Sessions, Camp Medical Staff typically attend to medical needs of campers such as minor wounds, bumps, cuts, scrapes, splinters, headaches, or other ailments as well as attending to emergency situations as they arise. Camp Medical Staff will document interactions and regularly communicate with Camp Administrative Staff.
During our Youth Residential Camp sessions, August 3-21, 2015, Camp Medical Staff will attend to the needs of Youth Residential Campers (age 7-16). This may include performing head lice checks, tracking and dispensing prescription medication administration, attending to basic medical needs of campers in accordance with on file Health History and Medical Authorization forms, and addressing issues and concerns such as homesickness and bedwetting.
While medical and emergency situations can and will arise, Camp Medical Staff will have opportunities to enjoy camp and the surrounding area.

Negative TB Test Result: Candidates under serious consideration must provide proof of a recent negative T.B. Test prior the beginning of the program.
Identification: Federal law requires that prior to employment, applicants must furnish proof of identity and eligibility for employment in the United States. Proof may be furnished by various documents such as Social Security Card (original) is required, birth certificate, driver’s license/CA I.D., passport, etc.
Fingerprinting: California state law requires that all recreation employees and volunteers having direct contact, supervisory or disciplinary authority over minors be fingerprinted as a condition of employment. Candidates under serious consideration for hire will be referred for fingerprinting.
CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification: All Echo Lake Camp staff must be in possession of a current CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification from the American Heart Association or other nationally recognized certification provider.
Safe Food Handler’s Certification: All staff members working in the Food Service Department or with food handling responsibilities must possess a valid Safe Food Handler’s Certification, according to California state law.
Minimum Age Requirement: The State of California requires any staff working as Camp Counselors to be at least 18 years of age OR a high school graduate.
