Postcards from Berkeley
Here are some of my favorite snapshots...
June 28, 2009: Here I am this summer at James Kenney Park where we handed out over 300 books for the successful Project BUILD Program.
June 1st, 2009: I am presenting my 2009 State of the City Address at the wonderful David Brower Center.
March 2, 2009: Jeanne Pimentel is showing me her new solar panels at her home in Berkeley. She'll pay for them over 20 years in property taxes using our new Berkeley FIRST solar financing program.
I was a starting member of the 1958 California Golden Bears Football team. It was the last time Cal played in the Rose Bowl. I am pictured second from the left in the 4th row.
Saturday, October 18th, 2008: I took this photo of Berkeley's latest art installation. "Berkeley Big People" is immortalizing its greatest protests - from People's Park to disability rights to the tree-sitters' standoff at Memorial Stadium - in a towering sculpture of demonstrators. The scultptures are located on our pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Interstate 80.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: In this photo I am cutting the ribbons at the grand opening of the Tom Bates Regional Sports Complex. There is still some work to be done at the 12-acre site, with grass softball and baseball fields slated for construction early next year.
Tuesday, July 8, 2008: Here I am at Richmond Build. Richmond BUILD will train 150 Richmond residents in a comprehensive pre-apprenticeship construction skills course that will include math, blue print reading, carpentry, cement work, basic electrical, and basic plumbing. A vigorous job-placement-component will be included, as well.
