Welcome to the District 5 website.  In addition to the information available here, my office sends out periodic e-newsletters with information about crime alerts, community meetings and citywide issues and policies that directly impact District 5 residents.  To be included on that mailing list, please send my office an email with “newsletter” in the subject line.

In the Office – Legislative Assistants

District 5 is lucky to have two Berkeley residents attending to constituent services. They are in the office Monday through Friday responding to requests for service and information.

Amelia Lopez, a Berkeley resident, first came to the Bay Area in 2007 to attend Mills College in Oakland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy in 2011 and a Masters in Public Policy in May of 2012. Before coming to the District 5 office, Amelia worked for two years as a Field Representative for Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. Her passions include teaching and advocating for processes to better serve others and working to close gaps in equity for children, youth and women. In her free time, Amelia loves to discover new places and new eats. You will often find her attending the Downtown Berkeley Farmer’s Market, on Saturday Mornings, exploring the bounty of produce and treats the season has to offer.

Beth Gerstein can be found part time in the District 5 office. She works on a variety of special projects, does policy research, and tends to any questions, concerns, and issues that constituents share. Initially acquainted with the District 5 team a few years back to conduct a resident survey on affordable housing, she had too much fun to leave. After many years of involvement with the Berkeley schools Beth is thrilled to combine her experiences with her academic expertise to benefit Berkeley’s children and youth. She also sits on the City’s Children, Youth, and Recreation Commission. Beth and her life partner of over 25 years have two kids at Berkeley High, several cats, and one excessively large dog.
