Every year, the Rosa Parks Elementary Environmental Science Magnet School has a “Back to School” event in August. The event attracts hundreds of attendees, most of which are new students and their families. This event helps the children with their transition into the new school and supports the parents during this often-stressful period. Many of these families are low-income and benefit greatly from the community support.
Since taking office in 2004, Councilmember Darryl Moore has helped provide the children with backpacks and school supplies through his fundraising efforts and with in-kind donations from local merchants, corporations, and organizations.
