Activities and Services - The Division on Aging offers a variety of free classes, workshops, and social events for adults 55 years of age and older (60 years and older for the lunch program). Currently, more than 1,200 seniors participate in activities held daily at two distinctive neighborhood Centers or in our home-delivered meal program. Our programs attract seniors with diverse backgrounds and interests who frequent the Centers for cultural exchange, meeting with friends, and enjoying delicious noon-time meals.  If you have recently retired, or simply want a delightful place to remain active, healthy, and enjoy good fellowship, please visit any or all, of our beautiful Senior Centers, located in North Berkeley, and South Berkeley.  [more...]

Participant Rules and Guidelines - Our Senior Centers are daytime activity centers where adults age 55 years and older (60 years for the lunch program) can participate in recreation, socialization, and intellectual activities, as well as find a variety of helpful, relevant services. The City of Berkeley Division on Aging is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our participants, visitors, and staff. Senior Companion Caregiver and Injury Prevention Programs - The Division on Aging administers two services introduced in 2002 to broaden the City's outreach to its older citizens. One program, the Senior Companion Caregiver Program, acknowledges the growing trend of younger family members who often must take on the responsibilities of caring for older, ailing relatives and the difficulties that undertaking presents. The other program, The Senior Injury Prevention Program in conjunction with the Berkeley Fire Department, identifies elders who often live alone and have no one else to turn to when they become ill or injured. Tri-City Cafés - The Tri-City Cafés offer casual, reasonably-priced dining exclusively for the older adult.  Café meals are tasty and nutritious. Each meal is low in fat and salt and has at least one vitamin C-rich course, and three meals a week include a vitamin A-rich course. Café meals are available to those that are 60 years or older or the spouse of a person aged 60 years or over who they are accompanying to the café.

Volunteer and Make a Difference! - The Aging Services Division provides many opportunities for volunteers to support seniors in our community.  Each year, hundreds of volunteers support the activities and services provided at the North and South Berkeley Senior Centers as well as help to deliver thousands of meals for the Meals on Wheels program.     [more...]
