Code Enforcement
Enhancing Berkeley's Quality of Life

The goal of the code enforcement unit is to provide a clean and safe environment for all Berkeley residents, workers and visitors. In general, the police and fire departments handle life and safety issues that are serious and urgent, while code enforcement is responsible for the enforcement of administrative violations. This work is often done in conjunction with other City departments and includes:

  • Land Use
  • Graffiti
  • Business Violations
  • Abandoned Vehicles
  • Illegal Dumping
  • Front Lawn Parking
  • Property Maintenance
  • Storm Water
  • Illegal Units and Accessory Uses
  • Signs
  • Mini Dorm/GLA Contacts

Some violations can also be enforced directly by other departments, for example:

To report suspected code violations, please call us at 981-CITY or download and type directly into this form  and mail it to the address at the bottom. Please provide as much information as possible.
