2011 Cultural Asset Survey by the Hewlett Foundation

In 2011 the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation hired Fractured Atlas out of New York City to do a survey of cultural assets in the Bay Area, Santa Cruz and Monterey. This was a proprietary study that would inform the Foundation about the areas that they funded. Berkeley's Civic Arts Program in applied to be part of the beta project, representing a medium-sized city of about 110,000 people.

Below are two sets of numbers.One includes only arts organizations and the other includes foundations, schools and churches that also play a role in the arts ecosystem. This study was done 5 years ago and there may be current gentrification may have since altered the arts landscape across the East Bay and San Francisco.
